The Managing Director is an executive-level staff member responsible for providing leadership in the day-to-day operation of the Festival, including project management, marketing, sponsorship, business development, strategic planning, knowledge of the Carnival creative arts, and administrative functions. This position reports to and works with the Board of Directors.


  • Direct and control the work and resources of the organization, overseeing day-to-day project management
    Create and maintain festival timeline; manage teams to meet milestones and deadlines
  • Work with a team to develop and implement programs and plans which will contribute to the Festival’s overall success


  • Ensure the recruitment and retention of the required numbers and types of well-motivated, trained, and developed volunteer staff to ensure that the organization achieves its mission and objectives.
  • Create and/or update job descriptions for all staff positions
    Identify, interview event managers and contract core and seasonal staff.
  • Conduct staff evaluations and performance tracking
  • Perform other duties as needed to ensure the best practices in organizational administration.


  • Oversee the planning and execution of all events, with a focus on Venue Operations, Security and logistics, Ticketing, Technical, and Volunteers
  • Build an effective team by providing guidance and coaching to subordinate staff.


  • Work with Marketing Manager to develop and maintain effective marketing, communications, and public relations strategy to promote the Caribbean Carnival and image of the organization nationally and internationally
  • Oversee the implementation of the year-round marketing plan, which includes branding, design, advertising, PR/press, outreach, and communications


  • Develop and manage measurement and evaluation of overall strategic plan objectives
  • Develop annual operating budget
  • Manage profit & loss, account disbursement, deposits, and other financial reporting functions with support from Controller.
  • Provide financial reports for all grant reporting, corporate sponsorship requests, and others as required
  • Negotiate or approve contracts with vendors
  • Supervise IT department
  • Manage HR functions
  • Manage Culinary Marketplace
  • Manage/administrate all contributed revenue efforts of the festival: corporate sponsors, government partners, grants, fundraising campaigns and events, and other gated sources
  • Manage external legal advisors and contracts
    Foster effective and unified relationships with Stakeholder organizations,
  • Foster efficient and effective Governmental Relations at all levels i.e. Federal, Provincial, and Municipal
  • Assess the principal risks of the Company and to ensure that these risks are being monitored and managed

Education and Experience

  • 10 or more years management or supervisory experience
  • Business, marketing, or finance degree preferred
