The Toronto Caribbean Carnival began as a gift to Canada during the Canadian Centennial and has continued to commemorate Caribbean culture for over a half-century. The Carnival has its roots in emancipation where Caribbean people freed themselves from slavery and indentureship. It embraces all races, cultures, and symbolizes freedom, pride, and unity, incorporating music, dance, and elaborate costumes.
Today, in addition to the cultural celebrations the FMC produces several programs to advance anti-racism and promote intercultural understanding. It provides educational programs including financial and business management, governing practices, and business law. It provides opportunities for small businesses to grow and market their products.
Toronto Carnival is North America’s largest celebration of Caribbean culture. It plays a crucial role in promoting diversity and cultural appreciation, contributing significantly to Toronto's economic and social landscape.
